Overview[]
During a meeting with Kelly Stownar, William Jones meets Emma, a maid-of-all-work under the employ of his former governess. Her beauty and amiable countenance, combined with the oddity of seeing a maid in glasses, intrigue William so much he quickly becomes infatuated with her.
When Kelly goes to answer a phone call, he attempts to ask Emma when she will be free, but Kelly's return cuts him off. She explains that she has an appointment to keep, forcing William to acquiesce, but not before he surreptitiously leaves behind a pair of gloves.
While cleaning up the room, Emma finds the gloves. Kelly informs Emma not to bother going after him, but changes her mind when she figures out William's motives. With the consent of her mistress, Emma leaves the apartment.
William, hiding behind the corner of a building, waits to see Emma before walking out onto the sidewalk, strolling nonchalantly. Spotting his figure, she catches up to him and returns his gloves. He apologizes, then invites her for a walk through the park. After she accepts, the two spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying one another's company.
Summary[]
The industrial revolution might have changed many ways of living, but several things have yet to change: a chasm still exists between those that have and those that have not, and carriages are still the main means of travel.
In one such carriage is a young man named William Jones. His errand today is to pay a visit to his former governess, Kelly Stownar. When he goes to knock on the door, the door opens, knocking him square in the face. A bespectacled maid apologizes and goes to retrieve his fleeing hat.
